All this rain has meant for some muddy dog cleaning! A few days ago as Heidi was running off-lead, she skidded in the mud, fell over, and was covered in it. We have been here before, as she does like a roll in the odd pile of fox poo. Luckily she is easy to give a wash outside the backdoor, she stands nice and patiently. Here are some photos I took of her having a wash during the spring (she has a lead on becuase we weren't so confident at the time she wouldn't run out of the garden);
She tore a bit of skin on her leg the other day too. Nothing major, and after wiping the blood away it couldn't be seen. But this is something we will have to watch with the long grasses crisping up in Autumn/Winter as she likes to run through it all on the wasteland. Last Winter, not long after she first came to us, she tore her leg quite badly this way. It was an open wound of about 2 inches. Luckily we managed to keep it clean enough, and it did eventually heal. We normally use salt-water, antiseptic spray, and some tea-tree healing cream for dogs.
She has been quite funny, playing me and H off one-another. Last night H was cuddling and petting her for ages, and from time to time she would turn and look at me while he was doing it. Then she walked over to me, and as I went to clap her, she turned away quickly snubbing me and went back to him. After a while, he got up from the sofa and went into the kitchen. Heidi jumped up onto his spot on the sofa, coming down after I told her no, .. after looking at Harvey and him telling her no too. This is the first time she had done this since she moved in - obviously trying her luck after thinking she had H round her little paw.
H found her on the bed, and she didn't even flinch, then when she heard me coming down the hall he said she jumped up and off really quickly. It is funny.
She stopped the barking I wrote about in a previous post, but sometimes her whines for food will turn into a howl and then a bark. But then if I just say no she will stop after about 10-20 seconds.
She is a good and obedient dog, and it's nice to see more of her personality come through.
