Retired Greyhounds: A Guide to Care and Understanding

This is a great book for anyone who is planning to, or has adopted a retired greyhound. Each year, thousands of racing greyhounds retire from the racetrack and are successfully re-homed through dedicated greyhound charities. This book was written in association with Greyhound Rescue West of England.

It is a very nicely set out book, with full colour pictures throughout, and the information has been organised in sections. It is a fascinating read, full of quirks that are unique to the greyhound - who make fantastic easy going pets! However they are not for everyone, and so this book can give you more information if you are unsure.

It takes you through what their early kennel life would have been like, and a brief outline of what it might have been like for them racing. Then it informs you of considerations good and bad - such as why they walk well on the lead (as they were trained to for the tracks), to them not being used to house-living at first. The prey drive is also something that is important to understand.

This book is a great allrounder, and something that you will no doubt refer back to.

The author, Carol Baby, works voluntarily for Greyhounds Rescue West of England, and is committed to improving people's knowledge and understanding of greyhounds.
